How to save energy ?

Unplug your standby devices

Whether it's your television, your computer or any other device, remember to unplug them when you're not using them. Indeed, the Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) estimates that the electrical energy consumption of electrical appliances left on standby represents the sum of €86 for a family of 2 or 3 people. Also remember to unplug appliances that are in your kitchen but that you only use occasionally, such as the toaster, kettle or other appliances. If individually, they have only a low consumption in standby, the electrical expenditure can quickly explode if they are left connected permanently.

Our tip? Bet on outlets with switches, then you will only have to press the switch with a simple press to cut the standby mode. Also remember to connect your television and your decoder to this type of outlet, as these are generally the most energy-consuming devices in a home. Indeed, a box that remains on 24 hours a day consumes as much as a washing machine over a year.

Opt for the Eco mode of your devices

Today, most appliances have an eco mode. Whether it's your dishwasher or your washing machine, make it a habit to use this mode whenever possible. Depending on the model, it can save almost half the energy, because it will then heat up at a lower temperature than with the classic mode and thus consume much less energy. However, be careful not to confuse the eco mode with the express mode: the latter is not intended to save you energy, but to save you time. On the contrary, it will therefore heat the water more quickly than with a classic program and in the end, you will not have achieved any energy savings. So don't be surprised if your eco program takes longer than the classic program: in reality, the water is heated gradually and generally does not exceed 30 to 50 degrees. The eco program then compensates by using a longer wash time. But knowing that 80% of the energy consumed by a washing machine is used to heat the water, the eco mode then makes it possible to reduce its consumption by 30 to 40%. A real money saver!

Our tip? Remember to rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. Similarly, for heavily soiled laundry, you can pre-wash it before putting it in the machine.

Control the heating

If he does not run it all year round, heating is one of the main household expenses. Then remember to adjust the thermostat according to the recommendations of Ademe, the ideal temperature to adopt is 19 or 20° degrees when you are at home and in the main rooms (living room, dining room, or office) . The temperature of the rooms should not exceed 16 to 17 degrees for optimal sleep. Finally, when you are not at home, you reduce the heating so that the temperature is around 15 to 16 degrees. Finally, it is also very important to ventilate your home even in winter. Indeed, it is easier to heat a room where the air is healthy rather than when it is loaded with humidity.

Our tip? Open your windows every morning when you wake up for about ten minutes to renew the air every day.
